ADHD Testing
At Solari Child & Educational Psychology, we provide comprehensive ADHD testing in the Greater Austin area, for children, adolescents and young adults who are struggling with attention, focus, impulsivity, or emotional regulation, whether or not there are existing school concerns or diagnoses. ADHD is not always about difficulty paying attention and is often about difficulty regulating attention when it matters most, moving from hyperfocus to difficulty sustaining focus.
Our role is to understand your child clearly, so you can support them in a way that actually works.
We understand that ADHD does not always present clearly in one setting. Many children and you people who are highly capable academically still struggle with organization, consistency, emotional regulation or sustaining attention over time, despite maintaining good grades or have successful early careers.
Our goal is to bring clarity to that uncertainty and help you understand what is really going on beneath the surface.
When Parents Reach Out for ADHD Testing, They Often Notice…
Difficulty sustaining attention or following multi-step instructions
High distractibility or “daydreaming”
Impulsivity or emotional reactivity
Struggles with homework, organization, or time management
Inconsistency between ability and performance
“Bright but inconsistent” school feedback (Smart but Scattered)
Concerns at home that are not fully reflected in school reports
Importantly, many children referred for ADHD assessment are performing at or above grade level but struggling with the demands of executive functioning.
Our ADHD Assessment Approach
Our ADHD evaluations assess:
Attention and concentration
Executive functioning (planning, organization, working memory)
Impulse control and self-regulation
Emotional regulation and frustration tolerance
Behavioral presentation across home, school and community contexts
We use standardized, evidence-based tools combined with clinical interview, behavioral observation, and developmental history.
ADHD, Autism, or Both? We Look at the Full Picture
ADHD often overlaps with Autism traits in children, particularly when there are:
Social communication differences
Sensory sensitivities
Emotional regulation challenges
Rigid thinking patterns alongside inattention
For this reason, we may recommend combined ADHD + Autism assessments when clinically appropriate is the intake session uncovers overlap traits and differences.
When ADHD Testing Is Not Enough
In some cases, ADHD concerns may sit alongside broader learning or cognitive questions. This is when we may recommend:
Neuropsychological assessment (for complex profiles, memory, processing speed, or multi-domain concerns)
Psychoeducational/academic testing (if learning differences such as dyslexia or dyscalculia are suspected)
This ensures we are not missing underlying learning or cognitive factors that may be driving attention challenges.
Second Opinions for ADHD Diagnoses
We also provide second opinion ADHD assessments for families who:
Feel unsure about a previous diagnosis
Have seen limited improvement with intervention
Received conflicting school and clinical feedback
Want a deeper or more comprehensive evaluation
A Bespoke, Intake-Led Assessment Process
Every child begins with a comprehensive clinical intake.
We then determine:
Whether ADHD testing alone is appropriate
Whether Autism assessment should be included
Whether a full neuropsychological or academic assessment is needed
Or whether a combined pathway would provide the clearest understanding
This ensures your child receives the right assessment bespoke to their exact needs.
