Hi, I’m Dr Enrique Childress.

As a licensed psychologist specializing in child and educational psychology, I provide evidence-based assessment, consultation, and therapeutic support for children, adolescents, their families and schools. My work is grounded in understanding not only what a child struggles with, but how their brain works and how their environment can better support them.

Families often describe my style as calm, thoughtful, pragmatic and reassuring. I aim to create a space where children feel safe to be themselves and parents feel understood, informed, and supported. My approach blends child psychology, developmental science, and educational systems thinking, allowing me to translate complex information into clear, practical guidance that families and schools can use with confidence.

As both a clinician and a mother, I bring deep respect for the emotional experience of parenting and for the importance of finding the right environment for each child to thrive. I work collaboratively with families and schools to build insight, clarity, and a realistic plan forward, that honors a child’s strengths while addressing and supporting their challenges.

Specialties

I have extensive experience working with children and adolescents in clinical, school, and medical settings. I believe in assessment and intervention that tell the story of how a child thinks, learns, and experiences the world, not just whether they meet criteria for a diagnosis.

My work focuses on:

  • Describing a child’s cognitive, emotional, and learning profile, highlighting strengths alongside areas where additional support may be needed

  • Providing clear, targeted recommendations that can be realistically implemented by families and educators

  • Supporting parents through problem solving consultations and parent support sessions

  • Working collaboratively with families and schools to help children and young people thrive

I specialize in working with neurodivergent children, including ADHD, autism, giftedness and twice-exceptionality, and learning differences, and in understanding how these profiles interact with mental health difficulties and executive function challenges.

I have specialist training and experience in pediatric brain injury, with a particular focus on supporting children’s return to school, sport, and community life following injury. I also support young people returning to school and sport following sport injuries, who are experiencing difficulties with performance, motivation and identity.

In therapy and consultation, I use evidence-based, developmentally informed approaches, supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and adaptive coping while honoring each child’s individual profile.

Experience & Training

My professional training and clinical work span Europe, Asia and multiple regions in the United States, giving me a broad and culturally informed perspective on child development, education, family and school systems. I have worked in multidisciplinary teams across school, medical, and community settings, collaborating closely with educators, physicians, and allied health professionals.

I completed my doctoral program in Child and Educational Psychology at the prestigious Faculty of Brain Sciences at University College London (UCL), along with a Master’s degree in Occupational Psychology from The University of Sheffield, which allows me to work not only with individuals but with schools and systems to support meaningful change. I also have advanced training in counseling and play therapy from The University of Wyoming.

My pre- doctoral internships spanned both clinical and school based settings, and my training at The Children’s Trust in Surrey, England, allowed me to develop specialist knowledge and practice in neuropsychology and neuro-rehabilitiation, supporting children and young people following acquired brain injury.

I have presented my work at international school psychology and pediatric brain injury conferences and co-authored a book chapter, contributing to the wider professional conversation about neurodivergence, development, and recovery after brain injury. Alongside clinical practice, I regularly consult with schools and provide training for educators and parents.

Outside of my professional work, I am a mother of two energetic daughters and have a lifelong background in the arts and sport. In my free time I love spending time in nature, hiking, traveling with my family, and staying active.
