At Solari we offer therapeutic services for children, young people and their families, together with consultation services for parents/carer and schools.

Dr. Childress works from an integrative perspective, incorporating a variety of therapeutic modalities. Dr Childress’ therapeutic work is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). She also provides Collaborative and Proactive Solutions informed parent support sessions, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills training for adolescents and their parents/carers and Narrative therapy work. For more information read here.

Solari intentionally moves away from one-size-fits-all strategies. Instead, the work is grounded in a range of therapeutic practices which are carefully crafted to the specific needs of a child, young person and their family. Treatment modality is discussed with the family at the end of the intake session.

These sessions empower you with strategies to work with your child, rather than against them, while reducing conflict and stress at home.

Dr Childress is a certified provider and trainer of Collaborative and Proactive Solutions through Lives in the Balance.

    • reduce power struggles and conflict
    • build collaborative problem-solving skills
    • create calmer, more connected family relationships

This approach is especially helpful for children who struggle with flexibility, frustration, transitions, or emotional regulation. It is also neuro-affirming and suitable for all children.

Therapy can also help when children are struggling with friendships, school stress, sleep, or big life changes like moving, loss, or family transitions.

You don’t have to wait for things to feel “serious”, many families seek therapy early to support emotional wellbeing and resilience.

  • After filling out the contact us form we will reach out within 1-2 business days with an intake form and schedule the intake session.

We will also send through the consent forms and terms of business which you can fill out prior to the intake or at the start of the session if you have questions you’d like to address.

Please note that all child therapy sessions require a parent intake session before commencing.

  • No. Children don’t need a diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Families often seek support simply because their child is having a hard time emotionally or socially.

Therapy focuses on understanding your child’s experiences and helping them build coping skills, not on labeling them.

  • Therapy sessions are tailored to your child’s age and needs. Younger children may use play, drawing, or games to express themselves. Older children and teens may talk more directly about their thoughts and feelings.

Parents are an important part of the process. You’ll receive guidance and strategies to support your child at home and school.

  • The length and frequency of therapy depends on your child’s needs and your goals. Some families come for short-term support around a specific concern, while others benefit from longer-term therapy. Frequency also varies, and some families commence with more regular sessions and then taper to monthly check ins.

Your child’s psychologist will regularly review progress with you and adjust the plan as needed.

  • Not at all. Seeking therapy shows you care deeply about your child’s emotional health. Children grow and change and sometimes they need extra support along the way. Asking for help is a strength, not a failure.

  • Yes. Therapy is private and respectful of your child’s feelings. Psychologists follow strict confidentiality and ethical guidelines. Parents will be kept informed in a way that supports your child’s wellbeing and trust.
